Mike and I are big "Do It Yourselfers" for many reasons but the primary is because it is much cheaper to do this ourselves! One of the findings in our home inspection report was that we had very limited blown insulation in the attic (3-6 inches). So Mike and I decided we would do the blown insulation ourselves. Home Depot lets you rent the machine for free if you buy 20 bags of insulation. We needed 40! So Friday night we borrowed Mikes Dads truck and went to Home Depot to get the insulation and machine. Now let me tell you 40 bags of insulation is a HUGE amount of insulation. After about an hour of Mike filing up the truck he was able to barely fit all 40 bags and the machine (and the crown molding I had to have). The guy helping Mike said "Wow, he is playing an awesome game of Tetris with those bags". It was a rather amusing ride home as we had 10 or so bags in the front of the truck between Mike and I. We spent all day Saturday doing the insulation and it was awful! Mike and I both decided this by far was the WORST project to date. Neither one of us EVER want to do insulation again. It was exhausting! We both had insulation in our hair, eye, nose etc. At any rate, it is done and at a great price! Oh the joys of homeownership :)

Megan,
Edward and I would agree insulation is the worst home project we've ever done too. We added it to our North Carolina house, which was new construction, but the upstairs was unfinished. I can still remember that...definitely a bad project, and like you guys, we love doing stuff.
Found your blog and am enjoying it.
